Can I come to a PHP or IOP for mental health only?

Yes. Our partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs admit people for depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, and panic disorder with no substance use involved. The level of care is decided by symptom severity, safety, and how much structure you need — not by whether a substance is part of the picture.

What is the difference between dual diagnosis and co-occurring disorders?

They describe the same clinical situation: a mental health condition and a substance use disorder present at the same time. Dual diagnosis is the older, more common consumer term, while co-occurring disorder is the language most clinicians and insurers use now. What matters is whether a program treats both together instead of sending you to two unconnected providers.

Do you prescribe psychiatric medication?

Yes. Psychiatric evaluation and ongoing medication management are part of every level of care, and are also available on their own for people already in therapy elsewhere. Medication decisions are made with your full clinical picture in view, including any substance use history.

Is virtual mental health treatment available?

Virtual IOP and virtual psychiatry are available to people physically located in Virginia. In-person PHP, IOP, therapy, and psychiatry are delivered at our Alexandria center and serve residents of Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC.
